
About Main Library


The Tanglin Club is justly proud of its Library which stocks over 27,000 books (17,000 in the Main Library and 10,000 in the Junior Library). It has an excellent selection of fiction and non-fiction titles ranging from the latest crime & thrillers, general fiction, romance and contemporary novels to cookery books, history, politics, current affairs and biographies. It also has a good range of travel guides.
Approximately 80 new books are added each month.

Borrowing books
You may borrow books in person from the Main Library or reserve them by telephone or email. Each member may borrow a maximum of two (2) books from the Main Library and four (4) books from the Junior Library for a period of two (2) weeks. You may renew your books a maximum of four (4) times with the exception for travel guides by phone to 6622 0494 / 0495 or email

Bye-Laws 21 & 24, governing the use of the Junior and Main Libraries
21. Junior Library
(a) Hours of Opening:
Monday - Closed
Tuesday to Friday – 12pm to 7pm
Saturday – 9am to 7pm
Sunday – 11am to 7pm
Public Holidays – 12pm to 7pm
(a)(i) All children visiting the library must not wear footwear and wet bathing suits. If in dry bathing suits, they should wear a shirt or jacket over it. No food, drinks, bags or satchels are allowed in the library.
(a)(ii) Children may sit and read in the library during operation hours but they must be quiet and well-behaved.
(a)(iii) Children may join the Junior Library and borrow four books at a time. They may keep them for a maximum of two weeks. At the expiry of this period, a notice shall be sent their parents, and unless the books are returned to the Club within four days, the parents shall be liable to a fine of 25 cents per day. A fine will be levied on books that are damaged or lost, which will be charged to the parent's Club account. A damaged or lost book shall be paid for by the parent.
(a)(iv) Books may be renewed for a further period or periods subject to the time limit given in the regulations and provided that they are not reserved by any other Member.
(v) Members may reserve books. When a reserved book becomes available, Members will be notified by telephone or email and must be claimed within three (3) days of notification.
(vi) Unless you have returned or replaced any book that has been borrowed for 90 days or more, you will not be eligible to borrow any more books.
(vii) No smoking is permitted in the Library.
(viii) Absence of a reminder is not a valid reason for a waiver of fines.
23. Main Library
(a) Hours of Opening:
Monday to Friday – 10am to 7pm
Saturday – 10 am to 5pm
Sunday – 10am to 3pm
Public Holidays – Closed
(b)(i) Members shall be entitled to take out two books at a time.
(b)(ii) Members shall be responsible for borrowed books.
(b)(iii) Books shall not be retained for more than 14 days. At the expiry of this period a notice shall be sent to Members, and unless the book or books are returned to the Club within four days, Members shall be liable to a fine of 25 cents for each book for every additional day for which the book is retained.
(b)(iv) A Member who fails to return a book or books within one month, or loses or seriously damages a book or books, shall be liable for the cost of replacement, plus administrative charges, if appropriate, or S$60 per book, if that book is no longer available.
(b)(v) Members shall return books to the Club and must not lend them to other Members or non-Members.
(b)(vi) Books may be renewed for a further period or periods subject to the time limit given in the regulations and provided that they are not reserved by any other Member.
(b)(vii) Members may reserve books. When a reserved book becomes available, Members will be notified by telephone or email, and must be claimed within three days of notification.

c(i) DVD Library
Regulations
In order to borrow DVDs from the Library, Members are required to pay S$5.00 per month. This is essential to enable the Members to join the DVD Section.
(c)(ii) Members may borrow two DVDs per Membership for a period of one week.
(c)(iii) There will be a cost of replacement, plus administrative costs, for a lost or damaged DVD.
(c)(iv) At the expiry of the period , a notice shall be sent to Members, and unless the DVD or DVDs are returned to the Club within four days, Members shall be liable to a fine of 25 cents for every additional day for which the DVD is retained.
(c)(v) Absence of a reminder is not a valid reason for a waiver of fines.
